Mr Clayton “Gary” Byrd Retires from the schoolhouse!

Mr. ByrdOn behalf of the ACA’s Board of Directors as well as our entire Membership, please accept the accompanying Certificate of Appreciation and AMMO Support coin as a small measure of our gratitude for all you have done for our newest AMMO Troops. Your efforts contributed significantly towards ensuring these folks were adequately trained for their Munitions Support duties where and when called for, world-wide.

AMMO Troops have always been known for their ability to produce and deliver the correctly configured ordnance in the quantities required, on time, every time, in support of whatever the combat aircraft sortie rates happen to be during wartime under the most arduous conditions imaginable. They have performed these toughest jobs in the USAF’s maintenance world willingly and consistently without fail. No Fragmentary (FRAG) order has ever been considered too difficult – – these guys and gals get the job done.

Those of us who rose through the ranks doing this work throughout our careers take great pride in our heritage. We make no apologies for considering AMMO troops to be a “cut above” the average USAF war fighter. Our achievements speak for themselves through years of hands on experience in Korea, Vietnam, and nearly continuous combat operations throughout the Middle East and around the world before and since 9/11. AMMO Troops continue today doing what needs to be done and they will always be there to ensure our combat aircraft have the bombs, bullets and PGM’s to do the mission.

We hope you won’t forget your association with AMMO and we wish you all the best as you continue to serve the USAF and this great country of ours. Thank you again Gary for all you have done at the AMMO Schoolhouse. Stay well, be safe and please keep in touch.

FAMMOly Helps AMMO Brother

6 March 2015

FAMMOLy

I came across a thread on Facebook regarding a young man who received an early out discharge from the Air Force.  He is one of our young AMMO brothers.  Since his discharge, his life seems to keep throwing curve balls, creating a mostly negative experience.  He worked at a few dead end jobs and even tried to go back to school.  He loved music and thought he had a place with a local band.  He and the band went separate ways earlier this week.  He stayed up all night, he proceeded to get wasted, and then, he began to think.  Luckily, some of his thoughts began spilling onto his Facebook page.  He said he wanted to die, but he could not kill himself.  He wanted someone to kill him.

Some Ammo friends fresh from the shock of one of our own retiree’s death by “suicide by cops” last week saw his comments are were concerned.  This created a beehive of activity.  Ammo Brother Jimmy Taylor (Ammo Veterans Association) began spreading the word that a brother needed help.  The Ammo pages on Facebook and phone network in our community lit up.  Jimmy was able to talk by phone to the young man.  He missed the Air Force, he missed the camaraderie of AMMO, but circumstances prevent him from getting back in.  He was ready to give up.  After notification of the police in his hometown, they immediately sent a unit to do a safety check.  The young man is now safe and being checked out for his depression.

An AMMO troop is a deputy on the local police department, so now we can maintain close contact going forward.  The young man has received hundreds of friend requests from members of our FAMMOly.  These requests came from all across the world.

His short tenure in AMMO does not diminish his standing, Once an AMMO troop, Always an AMMO troop!  A couple of years in the Air Force Ammo family constitutes “FAMMOly” for life.

He will not be one of the 22 today!

On behalf of the ACA, I would like to thank Jimmy Taylor, Bob Jones, the members of the Ammo Veterans Association, and all the other AMMO troops who stepped up today.  We are still part of the FAMMOly even after we separate from service.  Keep up the incredible things you do.  Keep the Flame Burning!  And remember…

“If you Aint AMMO, You Aint Shit”!

192nd FW promotes “1st” AMMO Chief

The 192nd FW, like most units in the Air National Guard never had a billet to support a Chief in the Munitions Storage Area.  In the past the Munitions manning document would only support a SMSgt to manage the element.   In November the unit changed that status, and promoted SMSgt John Nye to Chief.

The ACA would like to welcome and congratulate him on this accomplishment.

John is AMMO all the way!

We look forward to seeing him at meetings soon!Chief Nye
